Devonport Villa
Heritage protected, this house was a project about respecting the history of the iconic New Zealand Villa and how we can modernise it to live in it today. Bound by the strict council planning rules and classic proportions of the villa plan, the design became a careful balance of old and new. Sensitive to the spatial design of the historical villa, the new volumes mimic the old in a different way, and the rear living spaces connect with the landscape like villas never did. Throughout the house, views connect spaces and blur the lines between history and today.
